<p>Protein bars, breakfast bars, really anything in <a class="zem_slink" title="Bar form" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bar_form" rel="wikipedia">bar form</a> just makes sense in our dine while dashing society. The question is, what is it you&#8217;re really eating? Most of these bars claim to offer healthy, wholesome energy, but what you may not have realized is that the process to create &#8220;soy protein isolate,&#8221; which is often a primary ingredient in protein bars, utilizes a toxic solvent called <a class="zem_slink" title="Hexane" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hexane" rel="wikipedia">Hexane</a>.</p>
<p>Hexane is an industrial waste by-product of gasoline that, according to the EPA, can cause polyneuropathy in humans. Hexane is primarily used as a solvent to extract edible oils from seed and vegetable crops, such as<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/soybeans.html">soybeans</a>, as well as a solvent for glues, varnishes and inks. Hexane is also used as a degreaser in the printing<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/industry.html">industry</a>and as the liquid in low temperature thermometers.<span id="more-988"></span></p>
<p>Sounds yummy, doesn&#8217;t it? So, if you&#8217;re wondering why you rarely see &#8220;organic&#8221;<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/soy_protein.html">soy protein</a>, this is one of the reasons. Additionally, soy<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/protein.html">protein</a>typically comes from<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/genetically_modified.html">genetically modified</a>plants. Even non-genetically modified raw materials may contain small amounts of <a class="zem_slink" title="Genetically modified organism" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetically_modified_organism" rel="wikipedia">GMO</a>-parts,<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/claims.html">claims</a>GMO-Compass.org, because a total separation of conventional and GM soybeans is technically impossible.</p>
<p>In an effort to help you make smart &#8220;bar&#8221; choices, I spent a few quality hours in Whole Foods researching just which bars you may want to avoid and which ones you might want to check out. I was surprised to find that the majority of bars available do not contain<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/soy.html">soy</a>protein. It would seem the newer brands of bars are becoming more savvy in their ingredient offerings. I was impressed enough to walk away with a few bars of my own. Here&#8217;s the lowdown.</p>
<h1>Bars With Soy Protein:</h1>
<p><strong>Kashi Go Lean:</strong>Chocolate <a class="zem_slink" title="Peanut butter" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peanut_butter" rel="wikipedia">Peanut Butter</a> and Chocolate Caramel contain soy protein.</p>
<p><strong>Odwalla:</strong><a class="zem_slink" title="Soy protein" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soy_protein" rel="wikipedia">Isolated Soy Protein</a> is the #1 ingredient in their Original Super Protein Bar and their Chocolate Peanut Butter bar. Other flavors available did not contain soy protein.</p>
<p><strong>Honey Stinger:</strong>Contains soy nuggets made up of soy protein isolate, rice flour, malt and<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/salt.html">salt</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Luna</strong></p>
<p><strong><a class="zem_slink" title="ZonePerfect" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZonePerfect" rel="wikipedia">Zone Perfect</a>:</strong>Contains soy protein nuggets.</p>
<p><strong>Balance</strong></p>
<p><strong>Clif bars:</strong>All bars available contained soy protein except Clif Kids bars.</p>
<p><strong>ThinkThin:</strong>Their soy crisps are made from soy protein isolate.</p>
<p><strong>Powerbar/Powerbar Pria</strong></p>
<p><strong>*NuGO:</strong>Contains soy protein but claims to use<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/organic.html">organic</a>hexane-free soy crisps.</p>
<h1>Bars Without Soy Protein:</h1>
<p><strong>Kind:</strong>The Blueberry Pecan bar, for example, is full of<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/fruits.html">fruits</a>and nuts, non-gmo glucose, chicory fiber and 5 grams of protein.</p>
<p><strong>18 Rabbits:</strong>A <a class="zem_slink" title="Granola" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granola" rel="wikipedia">granola bar</a> with such fun flavors like Cheeky Cherry Chocolate and Haute Diggity Date. They&#8217;re one of the lowest in sugar at 12 grams.</p>
<p><strong>Perfect Foods:</strong>One of my favorites! Look for it in the refrigerated section.</p>
<p><strong>Vega <a class="zem_slink" title="Whole foods" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whole_foods" rel="wikipedia">Whole Food</a> <a class="zem_slink" title="Energy bar" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Energy_bar" rel="wikipedia">Energy Bar</a>:</strong>Is made from raw alkaline plant-based superfoods such as<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/hemp_protein.html">hemp protein</a>.</p>
<p><strong>Pro Bar Superfood Slam:</strong>Is a whole<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/food.html">food</a>meal bar with organic acai and wheat grass, 7 grams of protein and lots of fruits like papaya and pineapple.</p>
<p><strong>Garden of Life:</strong>Their Organic Super Seed bar contains 18 sprouted grains including spelt and offers a probiotic blend.</p>
<p><strong>Thunderbird Energetica:</strong>Their Cherry Walnut Crunch is made with sweet potato, turmeric and Hawaiian black lava salt. Unique, to be sure! I found them on the bottom shelf, so you may have to search for it.</p>
<p><strong>Raw <a class="zem_slink" title="Organic food" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Organic_food" rel="wikipedia">Organic Food</a> Bar:</strong>One of quite a few products that are specifying non-GMO<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/ingredients.html">ingredients</a>. This one also comes with quinoa. My interest is piqued.</p>
<p><strong>Vibrant Health:</strong>While their Green Vibrance Original Meal Bar sounds appealing with almond<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/butter.html">butter</a>, honey, carob, cherries, raisins and<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/sunflower_seeds.html">sunflower seeds</a>and dark chocolate, nowhere on the label do they describe the &#8220;Green Vibrance&#8221; ingredient. Although green in the<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/health_food.html">health food</a>industry usually brings to mind positive images, there are a lot of<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/green.html">green</a>things I wouldn&#8217;t want to stick in my mouth.</p>
<p><strong>Greens:</strong>Their Peanut Butter bar is full of super<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/foods.html">foods</a>and exciting ingredients like organic alfalfa grass, Echinacea root extract, Siberian eleuthero root extract and Montana bee pollen but not a lot of protein. Their Daily Mocha Mantra, which contains<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/hemp.html">hemp</a>protein, was highly recommended by Eric, the Whole Foods employee, because it&#8217;s delicious and high in Omega 3&#8242;s.</p>
<p><strong>Larabar:</strong>Very clean with few ingredients. My favorites are Banana Bread and Apple Pie.</p>
<p><strong>Raw Revolution:</strong>Their Chocolate and Coconut offers organic flax<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/seeds.html">seeds</a>, 7 grams of protein from cashews, sunflower seeds and almonds.</p>
<p>Although it seems that companies are starting to use better ingredients, it&#8217;s always important to read food labels. Just because you buy it at the<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/health.html">health</a>food store doesn&#8217;t mean it&#8217;s<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/healthy.html">healthy</a>.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <a class="zem_slink" title="United Kingdom" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=51.5,-0.116666666667&amp;spn=10.0,10.0&amp;q=51.5,-0.116666666667%20%28United%20Kingdom%29&amp;t=h" rel="geolocation">UK</a> population may now be <a class="zem_slink" title="Iodine" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iodine" rel="wikipedia">iodine</a>-deficient, warranting a full review and evidence-based recommendations to safeguard <a class="zem_slink" title="Public health" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_health" rel="wikipedia">public health</a>, according to new research.</p>
<p>The findings, presented at the Society for Endocrinology annual conference, provide the only current data on the UK’s iodine status; demonstrating iodine-deficiency in a large sample of the population.</p>
<p>The average urinary iodine level from the population was 80 micrograms per <a class="zem_slink" title="Litre" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Litre" rel="wikipedia">litre</a>, making the group ‘deficient’ by <a class="zem_slink" title="World Health Organization" href="http://www.who.int" rel="homepage">World Health Organisation (WHO)</a> standards.</p>
<p>When it comes to matters of health, salt has got a lot of bad press. Consequently, public health officials have unknowingly created an iodine deficiency.<span id="more-936"></span></p>
<p><em>“Our data suggest the UK is now iodine deficient, warranting a full investigation of the UK iodine status. We need to look into this now to decide whether public health bodies need to step in,” </em><em>said </em>Dr Mark Vanderpump, a consultant physician at the Royal Free Hampstead NHS, who led the research.</p>
<p><em>“The World Health Organisation has made iodine-deficiency a global priority and has been campaigning for at-risk countries to add iodine to their salt, a campaign which has been very successful. If it turns out that we do have a problem, this could be the most viable solution,” </em><em>added Vanderpump.</em></p>
<p><strong>Essential iodine</strong></p>
<p><a class="zem_slink" title="Iodine deficiency" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iodine_deficiency" rel="wikipedia">Iodine</a> is an essential trace element which helps the thyroid gland function properly.</p>
<p>Inadequate dietary iodine intake is the most common cause of preventable mental impairment worldwide. It is defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as a population median urinary iodine (UI) excretion of less than 100 micrograms per litre.</p>
<p>According to the WHO, iodine-deficient communities have <a class="zem_slink" title="Intelligence quotient" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligence_quotient" rel="wikipedia">IQs</a> up to 13.5 points lower than similar but iodine-sufficient communities, even mild deficiency may have an impact on the developing brain of fetuses and young children.</p>
<p>Most people get their iodine from their diet, with many countries now cheaply addressing this issue through a programme of <a class="zem_slink" title="Iodised salt" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iodised_salt" rel="wikipedia">salt iodisation</a>. The UK is yet to join this programme and does not require salt producers to iodise their salt.</p>
<p>But some experts argue that salt could be just what we need for healing, health and longevity. Modern salt, they agree, is unhealthy. But common <a class="zem_slink" title="Salt" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salt" rel="wikipedia">table salt</a> has almost nothing in common with traditional salt, say the salt connoisseurs. Just look at the rose-coloured crystals of Himalayan rock salt, or the grey texture of Celtic salt – both pride themselves on traditional harvesting, avoiding heat treatment or refining methods – and you know you&#8217;re getting something special, not least that when you taste them, they actually have flavour. And unlike the sodium chloride you find on most kitchen tables, unrefined rock salt contains more than 84 different minerals.</p>
<p>&#8220;These mineral salts are identical to the elements of which our bodies have been built and were originally found in the primal ocean from where life originated,&#8221; argues Dr Barbara Hendel, researcher and co-author of Water &amp; Salt, The Essence of Life. &#8220;We have salty tears and salty perspiration. The chemical and mineral composition of our blood and body fluids are similar to sea water. From the beginning of life, as unborn babies, we are encased in a sack of salty fluid.&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>Study details</strong></p>
<p><em>“We have performed a systematic assessment of the current UK iodine status in 14–15 years old schoolgirls. Seven hundred and eighty-five participants from nine UK centres provided 737 urine samples,”</em> explained the authors.</p>
<p><em>Vanderpump</em> and his colleagues reported the median UI value for this sample was 80 micrograms per litre, with 69 per cent of samples found to have values lower than 100 micrograms per litre and 18 per cent of people found to have values lower than 50 micrograms per litre.</p>
<p>They added that further analysis confirmed the findings as independent of confounding factors such as ethnicity, city of origin, and the majority of foods. The researchers did observe a positive association between iodine status and milk intake, however <em>“there was no correlation with other foods,”</em>they said.</p>
<p><em>“These findings suggest that the UK is now iodine-deficient, consistent with a fall in iodine status recently reported in Australia and USA,”</em> said the authors.</p>
<p>As this was a relatively small audit study that was confined to a single age group and sex, the researchers said that a full-scale investigation into the iodine status of the entire UK population is now warranted.</p>
<p><strong>Implications</strong></p>
<p><em>“We are very concerned about these findings as the consequences of iodine-deficiency are grave: iodine-deficient communities score lower in IQ tests, and even mild iodine-deficiency during pregnancy can cause serious mental impairments in children,” </em><em>said Dr Vanderpump.</em></p>
<p><em>Vanderpump</em> and his co-workers explained that young women of child-bearing age are the most susceptible to the adverse effects of iodine deficiency.</p>
<p><em>“Even mild perturbations of fetal and maternal <a class="zem_slink" title="Thyroid" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thyroid" rel="wikipedia">thyroid function</a> have an impact upon neurodevelopment so these findings are consequently of huge public health importance,”</em> they said.</p>
<p>They added that the findings <em>“indicate an urgent need for a comprehensive investigation of UK iodine status and evidence based recommendations on the need to implement a policy of iodine prophylaxis.”</em></p>

<p>Ask somebody about sunscreen and you&#8217;re likely to receive an earful of disinformation from a person who has been repeatedly misinformed by health authorities and the mainstream media. Almost nothing you hear about sunscreen from traditional media channels is accurate. So here&#8217;s a quick guide to the 7 most important things you need to know about sunscreen, sunlight and vitamin D:</p>
<h1>#1) The <a class="zem_slink" title="Food and Drug Administration" href="http://www.fda.gov/" rel="homepage">FDA</a> refuses to allow natural sunscreen ingredients to be used in sunblock / sunscreen products</h1>
<p>It&#8217;s true: If you create a truly natural sunscreen product using exotic botanicals with powerful sunscreen properties, you will never be able to market it as a &#8220;sunscreen&#8221; product. That&#8217;s because the FDA decides what can be used as sunscreen and what can&#8217;t, regardless of what really works in the real world. And there are really only two natural ingredients the FDA has allowed to be sold as sunscreen: Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide.<span id="more-969"></span></p>
<p>Any other non-chemical sunscreen ingredients, if sold as &#8220;sunscreen,&#8221; would be considered mislabeled by the FDA and result in your products being confiscated&#8230; even if they offer fantastic sunscreen protection!</p>
<p>Not surprisingly, this whole monopoly over sunscreen chemicals is designed to protect the profits of the chemical companies while marginalizing the <a class="zem_slink" title="Natural product" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_product" rel="wikipedia">natural product</a> companies which could easily formulate far better solutions. I have personally spoken to the founders of several health product companies who have figured out amazing sunscreen formulations using nothing but natural botanicals, but<em>the FDA won&#8217;t let them market their products as sunscreen products!</em></p>
<p>It&#8217;s just another example of the FDA standing in the way of health innovation.</p>
<h1>#2) Nearly all conventional sunscreen products contain cancer-causing chemicals</h1>
<p>Read the ingredients list of any sunscreen product sold at <a class="zem_slink" title="Wal-Mart" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=36.3641666667,-94.2163888889&amp;spn=0.01,0.01&amp;q=36.3641666667,-94.2163888889 (Wal-Mart)&amp;t=h" rel="geolocation">Wal-Mart</a>, or Walgreens, or any other mainstream store. I dare ya!</p>
<p>You will not be able to pronounce most of the chemicals found in the ingredients list. That&#8217;s because most sunscreen products are formulated with<strong>cancer-causing fragrance chemicals</strong>, parabens, harsh alcohols, toxic chemical solvents and petroleum oils. A typical sunscreen product is actually<strong>a chemical assault on your body</strong>. That&#8217;s why research shows that using sunscreen actually<em>causes</em>more cancer than it prevents (<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/023317_skin_chemicals_products.html" target="_blank">http://www.naturalnews.com/023317_s&#8230;</a>).</p>
<h1>#3) In a nation where over 70% of the population is vitamin D deficiency, sunscreen actually blocks vitamin D production</h1>
<p><a class="zem_slink" title="Hypovitaminosis D" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypovitaminosis_D" rel="wikipedia">Vitamin D deficiency</a> is perhaps the most widespread vitamin deficiency in North America. According to the research, 70 percent of whites are deficient in vitamin D, and up to<strong>97 percent of blacks</strong>are deficient (<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/030598_vitamin_D_Institute_of_Medicine.html" target="_blank">http://www.naturalnews.com/030598_v&#8230;</a>).</p>
<p>Chronic vitamin D deficiency promotes cancer (<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/031560_vitamin_D_cancer.html" target="_blank">http://www.naturalnews.com/031560_v&#8230;</a>), winter flu and infections, depression, osteoporosis and hormonal imbalances. Depending on whom you believe, vitamin D alone can prevent anywhere from 50% to nearly 80% of all cancers (<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/021892.html" target="_blank">http://www.naturalnews.com/021892.html</a>).</p>
<p>By blocking vitamin D production in the skin,<strong>sunscreen products actually contribute to cancer-promoting nutritional deficiencies</strong>.</p>
<p>This doesn&#8217;t mean you should never wear a sunscreen product, of course. If your skin is really pale and you&#8217;re planning a day on the beach in Hawaii, you will obviously benefit from some level of <a class="zem_slink" title="Sunscreen" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunscreen" rel="wikipedia">sun protection</a> using a truly natural sunscreen product. But an informed health-conscious person would try to allow their skin to achieve a natural, healthy tan (yes, a tan truly is healthy if it&#8217;s combined with good nutrition, see below) through sensible exposure levels that activate vitamin D production in the skin.</p>
<h1>#4) You can boost your internal sun resistance by changing what you eat</h1>
<p>Here&#8217;s the real secret about <a class="zem_slink" title="Sunburn" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunburn" rel="wikipedia">sun exposure</a> that<em>no one</em>in <a class="zem_slink" title="Medicine" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medicine" rel="wikipedia">conventional medicine</a> is talking about (because, as usual, they are woefully ignorant about nutrition): You can<strong>boost your internal sunscreen</strong>by eating antioxidant-rich foods and superfoods.</p>
<p>The supplement<strong>astaxanthin</strong>, for example, is very well known for boosting your skin&#8217;s natural resistance to sunburn. Its fat-soluble carotenoids are actually transported to <a class="zem_slink" title="Skin" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skin" rel="wikipedia">skin cells</a> where they protect those cells from <a class="zem_slink" title="Ultraviolet" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultraviolet" rel="wikipedia">UV</a> exposure.</p>
<p>The more natural antioxidants you have in your diet, the more sunlight your skin will be able to handle without burning. Nearly everyone mistakenly believes that a person&#8217;s sunlight burn response is purely a genetic factor. They&#8217;re wrong. You can<strong>radically improve your resistance to UV exposure</strong>through radical dietary changes.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m a great example of this, actually, as I used to burn in just 20 &#8211; 30 minutes of sunlight when I was on a junk food diet years ago. But now, as someone who eats superfoods and high-end nutritional supplements every day, I can spend hours in the sun and will only turn slightly red (which fades a few hours later and does not result in a burn or skin peeling).</p>
<p>Except for one time on an all-day visit to a water park, I have not worn sunscreen in over 8 years. I spend a large amount of time in the sun, and I have absolutely no concerns whatsoever about <a class="zem_slink" title="Skin neoplasm" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skin_neoplasm" rel="wikipedia">skin cancer</a>. My skin, most people tell me, looks significantly younger than my biological age. That&#8217;s not from sunscreen; it&#8217;s from nutrition. Sun exposure does not make your skin &#8220;age&#8221; if you follow a high-nutritional density diet.</p>
<h1>#5) UV exposure alone does not cause skin cancer</h1>
<p>It is a complete medical myth that &#8220;UV exposure causes skin cancer.&#8221; This false idea is a total fabrication by the ignorant medical community (dermatologists) and the profit-driven sunscreen companies.</p>
<p>The truth is actually more complicated:<strong>Skin cancer can only be caused when UV exposure is combined with chronic nutritional deficiencies</strong>that create skin vulnerabilities.</p>
<p>To create skin cancer, in other words, you have to eat a junk food diet, avoid protective antioxidants, and then also experience excessive UV exposure. All three of those elements are required. Conventional medicine completely ignores the dietary influences and focuses entirely on just one factor: Sunscreen vs. no sunscreen. This is a one-dimensional approach to the issue that&#8217;s grossly oversimplified to the point of being misleading.</p>
<p>The medical industry, it seems, does not want people to figure out they can literally eat their way to healthier skin. It&#8217;s amazing, actually:<strong>Your skin is made entirely out of the food you eat</strong>, so how could your diet not affect your skin health? Yet no one in conventional medicine &#8212; not the dermatologists, not the doctors and not the health regulators &#8212; has the intellectual honesty to admit that<strong>what you eat largely determines how your skin reacts to UV exposure</strong>.</p>
<h1>#6) Not all &#8220;natural&#8221; sunscreen products are really natural</h1>
<p>Be careful when shopping for so-called &#8220;natural&#8221; sunscreen products. While there are some good ones out there, many are just examples of<em>greenwashing</em>, where they use terms like &#8220;natural&#8221; or &#8220;organic&#8221; but still contain loads of synthetic chemicals anyway.</p>
<p>A good guide for checking on sunscreen products is the<em>Environmental Working Group</em>guide (EWG) at:<br />

<p>Some of the products that are<em>truly</em>natural include<strong>Loving Naturals sunscreen</strong>and<strong>Badger All Natural Sunscreen</strong>. Read the ingredients labels to see for yourself. Don&#8217;t use any sunscreen product containing ingredients that sound like chemicals:</p>
<p>• Methyl&#8230;<br />
• Propyl&#8230;<br />
• Butyl&#8230;<br />
• Ethyl&#8230;<br />
• Trieth&#8230;<br />
• Dieth&#8230;<br />
etc.</p>
<p><strong>Always buy unscented sunscreen</strong>unless for some reason you just enjoy coating your skin with artificial perfume chemicals. A typical sunscreen product is made with over a dozen cancer-causing fragrance chemicals, and they&#8217;re absorbed right through your skin. Most sunscreens, when applied as directed, are really just<strong>toxic chemical baths</strong>that heavily burden your liver and can give you cancer.</p>
<h1>#7) Many &#8220;chemical free&#8221; sunscreens are loaded with chemicals</h1>
<p>Search Amazon.com for &#8220;chemical free natural sunscreen&#8221; and you&#8217;ll see a listing for:</p>
<p><em>Jason Natural Cosmetics &#8211; Earth&#8217;s Best Sun Block Chemical Free, 4 oz cream</em></p>
<p>Click on the product and you&#8217;ll find a listing of its ingredients which includes:<em>C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sorbitan Isostearate, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Ethyl Macadamiate, Calcium Starch Octenylsuccinate, Stearalkonium Hectorite</em></p>
<p>So how are those not chemicals? Ethylhexyl Palmitate is NOT a chemical? Who are these people kidding? The Amazon.com description (title) of this product is false and misleading. In all fairness, however, this product title looks like it was added into the Amazon.com system by the vendor and not the Jason company itself. But it&#8217;s an example of how the information you see from online vendors can often be misleading.</p>
<p><strong>Always read the ingredients</strong>of any sunscreen product before using it. Don&#8217;t poison yourself with sunscreen!</p>
<h1>Beware the disinfo minefield surrounding sunscreen products</h1>
<p>Perhaps more with sunscreen than any other personal care product, the &#8220;official&#8221; information distributed through the mainstream media is hopelessly misleading (if not downright false). Remarkably, no one in the media or the government is even willing to admit that fragrance chemicals are bad for your health. Similarly, no one is willing to admit that<strong>the chemicals you put on your skin get ABSORBED by your skin</strong>.</p>
<p>Without those two truths being acknowledged right up front, the rest of whatever they say about sunscreen is worthless babble. Any honest talk about sunscreen must acknowledge the simple truth that the chemicals you put on your skin get absorbed into your skin, and that most sunscreen products are made out of<strong>a chemical cocktail</strong>of cancer-causing substances.</p>
<p>This is the truth about sunscreen that both the sunscreen industry and<em>the cancer industry</em>doesn&#8217;t want you to hear. It&#8217;s the dirty little secret of sunscreen: The more you use, the more you CAUSE cancer in your body! (And the more money the cancer centers make &#8220;treating&#8221; your cancer with yet more deadly chemicals known as<em>chemotherapy</em>.)</p>
<p>So<strong>buyer beware</strong>. Sunscreen products are a minefield of lies, fraud and disinformation designed to keep you ignorant of the importance of sun exposure as well as the health risks associated with using cancer-causing chemicals on your skin.</p>
<p>Stick with truly natural sunscreen products (when needed) and try to build up a healthy tan<em>while consuming large quantities of superfoods and antioxidants</em>in your diet. Consider taking astaxanthin or other fat-soluble nutrients on a regular basis. Engage in daily<strong>juicing</strong>of fresh fruits and vegetables which are loaded with living nutrients. Time your sun exposure to build up a healthy tan so that you don&#8217;t need sunscreen at all. Contrary to all the misinformation we&#8217;ve all been fed, a healthy tan is actually a good sign that you&#8217;re achieving adequate vitamin D synthesis in your own skin.</p>

<p>There are indeed amazing feats of mind over matter like the <strong><a href="http://www.reuters.com/news/video?videoId=79320404">Yogi in India who lives without food and water</a></strong>, the story of <strong><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqyH8ueCAsY">Coral Castle</a></strong> where one man cut and moved solid stones larger than those used in the pyramids, or the proven telekinetic powers of <strong><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aa1_EEShWWU">Nina Kulagina</a></strong>.</p>
<p>These cases, and others involving transcending the material world like cases of <a class="zem_slink" title="Extrasensory perception" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extrasensory_perception" rel="wikipedia">extrasensory perception</a> (ESP), are typically viewed as paranormal events. However, these seemingly impossible phenomenon may become more widely accepted as we better understand the implications of quantum mechanics.<span id="more-952"></span><br />
<a name="more"></a></p>
<p>Quantum physics has proven that all matter at the subatomic level exists in wave form, and that matter only appears solid when we, as the observer, use our senses to decode and perceive the wave patterns in space and time.  Significantly, thoughts, especially concentrated thoughts, also form measurable wave patterns.  And thought waves have proven to affect observable matter in the physical world.</p>

<p>In his book called <em><strong><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Hidden-Messages-Water-Masaru-Emoto/dp/0743289803?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=permacultucom-20&amp;link_code=btl&amp;camp=213689&amp;creative=392969" target="_blank">The Hidden Messages in Water</a></strong><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=permacultucom-20&amp;l=btl&amp;camp=213689&amp;creative=392969&amp;o=1&amp;a=0743289803" alt="" width="1" height="1" border="0" /></em>, <a class="zem_slink" title="Masaru Emoto" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masaru_Emoto" rel="wikipedia">Masaru Emoto</a> explains his experiments on water crystals which proved that droplets of water form different shapes when frozen with words associated to each sample. For example, the sample droplets would have phrases like <em>I love you</em>, <em>thank you</em>, or <em>I hate you</em> written next to them.  The frozen droplets would form glorious snowflake-like crystals with the words <em>love</em> and <em>thank you</em>, but a nasty oil splotch-like design next to the word <em>hate</em>.  As stated in the movie <strong><em><a href="http://www.whatthebleep.com/index2.shtml">What the bleep do we know?</a></em></strong>, &#8220;If thoughts and words have that much power over water, imagine what they do to us,&#8221; as we are formed of between 60%-80% water, based on our age.</p>

<p>If our thoughts have the power to manifest changes in the physical world, then controlling our thoughts would seem to be of utmost importance.  As popularized in the book and movie <em><strong><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Secret-Rhonda-Byrne/dp/1582701709?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=permacultucom-20&amp;link_code=btl&amp;camp=213689&amp;creative=392969" target="_blank">The Secret</a></strong><img src="http://www.assoc-amazon.com/e/ir?t=permacultucom-20&amp;l=btl&amp;camp=213689&amp;creative=392969&amp;o=1&amp;a=1582701709" alt="" width="1" height="1" border="0" /></em>, thoughts will manifest into reality.  Simply put, thoughts become things &#8212; even negative thoughts.  The examples laid out in <em>The Secret</em> are mostly about people attracting wealth, health, or relationships to themselves through positive thinking and visualization exercises.</p>
<p>What&#8217;s more, physicists have also discovered that at the quantum level all particles (matter) seem to somehow be connected to all other particles through what they call<em>entanglement</em>.  Tests show that particles that were created together will react instantly to the same stimuli presented to one of them no matter how far apart they are in perceivable space.  And assuming the <a class="zem_slink" title="Big Bang" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Bang" rel="wikipedia">Big Bang theory</a> is correct, then all particles that created the known universe are forever entangled.</p>
<p>This detectable connection between all particles represents profound implications.  First, this would seem to mean that on the subatomic level we are scientifically one with everything and everybody.  And second, this connectivity and oneness would seem to provide unlimited power for the individual to imprint changes to the whole with his thoughts. Lastly, it may ultimately solve many paranormal mysteries.</p>

<p>This connectivity would appear to help explain the mechanics behind extrasensory perception (ESP), which is now a statistically measurable phenomenon on average humans.  So much so that a recent <strong><a href="http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/extrasensory-perception-scientific-journal-esp-paper-published-cornell/story?id=12556754">Cornell University study on ESP</a></strong> has been published in the prestigious <a class="zem_slink" title="Journal of Personality and Social Psychology" href="http://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/psp/" rel="homepage">Journal of Personality and Social Psychology</a>, a peer-reviewed journal published by the <a class="zem_slink" title="American Psychological Association" href="http://www.apa.org" rel="homepage">American Psychological Association</a>.</p>
<p>If we are connected to all things past, present and future &#8212; and all things are frequency ranges that cannot be destroyed &#8212; then space and time does not exist as we think of it.  So, in a sense, we are connected to the dinosaurs who still technically exist, only in a undetectable frequency range.  In turn, all human souls, or intelligent consciousnesses if you prefer, consistently exist in a timeless, space-less frequency range.  It is this concept that may help explain precognition, channeling, reincarnation, telepathy, etc.  In other words, people who have these abilities and experiences may simply be tuning into a different frequency on their extrasensory dial.</p>
<p>As outrageous as it may be to believe, we all would seem to possess these great powers of the mind to transcend and effect the physical world.  Minimally, each of us clearly plays a distinct role in creating, not only our personal reality, but also collective reality though our thoughts and beliefs.  These thoughts, if conditioned to focus on negative or fearful feelings, will likely result in more manifestations of negativity in the world through more economic collapse, natural disasters, wars, suffering, and other events that feed off our fears.</p>
<p>Although most fears propagated by those with an agenda are an illusion, even seemingly legitimate fears that help us survive in the material world may also be fictitious.  After all, if the energy of our being, by laws of nature, cannot be created or destroyed, death is nothing more than a transformation of our eternal frequency.  Therefore, not even death should be feared.</p>
<p>The lesson is that if each of our minds has great power over what manifests in the world, it would seem to nullify the blame game of all problems in the world.  Incidentally, each of us, by way of connection on the subatomic level and fear-bound complacency on the physical level, are partially responsible for all global atrocities.  To place angry blame on a specific group who represents a given atrocity would only seem to feed the darkest manifestation of what this group promotes.</p>
<p>This idea was highlighted by Gandhi who stated that a movement is much more powerful when it promotes what it stands for, rather than fight against what it opposes.  Hence, those who seek to make the world a better place would be far more effective by focusing their energy and thoughts on solutions to what they oppose.  This is not to say we should not acknowledge our distaste for unsavory events like war, environmental disasters, economic injustice, and the like.  However, we should not allow our anger to become hatred of the perpetrators themselves, but rather to concentrate our focus on manifesting the world we wish to see around us.</p>

<p><a class="zem_slink" title="Resveratrol" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resveratrol" rel="wikipedia">Resveratrol</a> activates sirtuins, a class of proteins that are thought to underlie many of the beneficial effects of calorie restriction. Previous studies in mice have provided compelling evidence that when sirtuins are activated by resveratrol, diabetes is improved. Sirtuin activators are now being tested in humans as anti-diabetic compounds.<span id="more-948"></span></p>
<p><em>“Whether resveratrol (or some of its future derivatives) becomes a useful tool in combating <a class="zem_slink" title="Type 2 Diabetes" href="http://diabetes.webmd.com/guide/type-2-diabetes" rel="webmd">type 2 diabetes</a> is difficult to tell, although the fact that recent studies (including the present study) have demonstrated that the efficacy of resveratrol at low doses might increase the possibility for its medicinal application,”</em> report researchers from the <a class="zem_slink" title="University of Pécs" href="http://english.pte.hu" rel="homepage">University of Pécs</a>.</p>
<p><em>“On the other hand, the present study definitely suggests that resveratrol could become a useful tool in gaining a deeper understanding of the mechanisms underlying the development of insulin resistance and oxidative stress.”</em></p>
<p><strong>Resveratrol’s rosy potential</strong></p>
<p>Resveratrol, a powerful polyphenol and anti-fungal chemical, is often touted as the bioactive compound in grapes and red wine, and has particularly been associated with the so-called &#8216;<a class="zem_slink" title="French Paradox" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Paradox" rel="wikipedia">French Paradox</a>&#8216;. The phrase, coined in 1992 by Dr Serge Renaud from <a class="zem_slink" title="University of Bordeaux" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Bordeaux" rel="wikipedia">Bordeaux University</a>, describes the low incidence of heart disease and obesity among the French, despite their relatively high-fat diet and levels of wine consumption.</p>
<p>Interest in the compound exploded in 2003 when research from <a class="zem_slink" title="David Sinclair (biologist)" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Sinclair_%28biologist%29" rel="wikipedia">David Sinclair</a> and his team from Harvard reported that resveratrol was able to increase the lifespan of yeast cells. The research, published in Nature, was greeted with international media fanfare and ignited flames of hope for an anti-ageing pill.</p>
<p>According to Sinclair’s findings, resveratrol could activate a gene called <a class="zem_slink" title="Sirtuin 1" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirtuin_1" rel="wikipedia">sirtuin1</a> (Sirt1 – the yeast equivalent was Sir2), which is also activated during calorie restriction in various species, including monkeys.</p>
<p>Since then studies in nematode worms, fruit flies, fish, and mice have linked resveratrol to longer lives. Other studies with only resveratrol have reported anti-cancer effects, anti-inflammatory effects, cardiovascular benefits, anti-diabetes potential, energy endurance enhancement, and protection against Alzheimer’s.</p>
<p><strong>New data</strong></p>
<p>The Hungarian researchers recruited 19 people type-2 diabetics and randomly assigned them to receive either resveratrol supplements (two 5 milligram doses from Argina Nutraceuticals, Hungary) or placebo for four weeks.</p>
<p>Results showed that after four weeks of resveratrol supplementation, the participants showed a significant decrease in insulin resistance, compared to the placebo group.</p>
<p>In terms of a potential mode of action for the polyphenol, the researchers noted that this may be related to its antioxidant activity, because oxidative stress is “widely accepted” as a key driver in the onset of insulin resistance.</p>
<p>There is also the possibility that resveratrol’s potential benefits are linked to its ability to activate <a class="zem_slink" title="AKT" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AKT" rel="wikipedia">Akt</a> phosphorylation &#8211; an intracellular insulin dependent protein that facilitates the uptake of glucose into cells. Indeed, an increase in the levels of phosphorylated Akt (activated) to Akt was observed.</p>
<p><em>“The present study shows for the first time that resveratrol improves insulin sensitivity in humans, which might be due to a resveratrol-induced decrease in oxidative stress that leads to a more efficient insulin signalling via the Akt pathway,”</em> concluded the researchers.</p>

<p>The only war waged by the cancer industry has been against alternative cancer cures that are efficacious, inexpensive, and non-toxic. The cancer industry wants your business so badly they&#8217;re ignoring or marginalizing most real<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/cancer_prevention.html">cancer prevention</a>possibilities.<span id="more-946"></span></p>
<p>Here are a few cancer<a href="http://www.naturalnews.com/prevention.html">prevention</a>suggestions.</p>
<p><strong><a class="zem_slink" title="Cholecalciferol" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cholecalciferol" rel="wikipedia">Vitamin D3</a></strong></p>

But the one thing walking does compared to other sports and exercises, is it creates a rhythm which we can follow effortlessly. Through the physical rhythm, which is the rhythm of the body, we have the emotional rhythm. We notice that when we walk, feelings often come up, and we have a chance to process them. There is also a psychological rhythm and a sense of well being, a certain expansion that happens when you walk enough. This can partly be attributed to the endorphins released by even moderate exercise. But there&#8217;s a deeper and more subtle process of healing that is also occurring.</p>
<p>The walking, because it&#8217;s rhythmic and repetitive, allows for the release of physical, emotional and psychological energies that are stored. It&#8217;s also important when we walk to pay attention to the movement our hands. Sometimes when we walk, we can shake our body in a non rhythmic movement to allow some of the less defined patterns that are not repetitive to come out, and this allows for a more unusual release.<br />
So when we walk, we are walking on all levels, physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual. What ties it together is the <a class="zem_slink" title="Breathing" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breathing" rel="wikipedia">breathing</a>. As we walk, we naturally start breathing deeper. It&#8217;s a good idea (and sometime this happens on its own without our awareness) to start synchronizing our steps with our breathing. You will notice that the inhalation/exhalation starts being synchronized, and when we are running it&#8217;s hard to do this because we are moving too fast. Rhythmic breathing becomes the key.</p>
<p>With walking we can synchronize the movement of the body, the movement of the breath, which is called the speech level, or the throat chakra in <a class="zem_slink" title="Eastern philosophy" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eastern_philosophy" rel="wikipedia">Eastern philosophies</a>, and the movement of the mind, through emotions, feelings, and thoughts. This is really the powerful value of such a simple exercise, where walking becomes more than just walking.
